I distinctly remember challenging some teacher when I was young about learning the metric system. It seemed totally useless to me. I was proven totally wrong today, but I'll get to that in a minute.
My day started rough. At about 7:30am someone rang my door buzzer. There are only 2 people in this entire country who know I'm living here- my landlord & my friend who helped me find the apartment- so I knew it must be a mistake & tried to go back to sleep. They kept buzzing for 20 minutes so I staggered over to the intercom & asked who it was in my best half-asleep doggerel Spanish. No answer. On my way back to bed it buzzed one last time, but I ignored it & it was finally over, but I couldn't get back to sleep. So I took a shower & discovered I have no hot water.
In desperate need to perk up, I decided to buy myself some of the aforementioned Jamón Ibérico. Here's where my metric deficiencies (combined with sleepiness) come in. I was convinced that a kilogram is just under half a pound. But I had it backwards and a pound is just less than half a kilogram. So when I ordered "un mediokilo" of ham I got over a pound instead of a quater pound as I intended. Considering this is stuff you usually eat sparingly & savor slowly I wound up with way too much, but I'm often the sort of fellow who appreciates too much of a good thing, so it's not a terrible way to learn my conversions. If all my lessons were reinforced by pork I could have been the next Einstein.
I took a long walk after breakfast (regardless of the hour & day I will not call it brunch) to poke around Condesa a bit & locate my school which is even closer to my apartment than I thought. The school is right near a much-loved sandwich shop so I already have Monday's lunch planned.
After some time to rest my aching still-not-quite-healed foot, I'm heading to my friend's brother's art opening at what I've been warned is a very chic gallery. The day has turned itself around beautifully. ¡Besos!

I love that at 7:30 am you needed to perk up... so you went straight for the Iberian ham. Classic! Did you find any decent coffee yet? Keep writing, this is great stuff..
